You can decide what parts of a contact's name are shown

There are many places in CiviPlus where a full contact name is displayed - for example on the contact record itself, or as part of a report. There is a system field in CiviPlus called Display Name which defines the format of a name - the default is:

"Prefix" "First Name" "Last Name" "Suffix"

so, for example a contact name might be displayed as:

Dr. John Jones Sr.

You can change the format of the Display Name field by navigating to Administer -> Customise Data and Screens -> Display Preferences. Towards the bottom of this page you will see the box in which the Display Name format is specified:

You can add or remove individual fields to the format, for example if you want tthe middle name to be shown then simply insert it between First and Last name, as below

{contact.individual_prefix}{ }{contact.first_name}{ }

{contact.middle_name}{ }{contact.last_name}{ }{contact.individual_suffix}

Click SAVE, and now when you view a contact record with a middle name you will see something like this:
